AUDITIONING NOW FOR OUR 2023-2024 SEASON

The Phoenix Boys Choir is so much more than our GRAMMY-award winning music education program.  Participation in our choir opens the world to your son through the development of critical life skills, lifelong friends and domestic and international travel that they'll remember the rest of their lives!

Our music education programs feature training in voice, music theory, and performance for boys. Each year, we offer a full season of concert performances featuring a wide variety of languages, styles, and music genres. We produce recordings, participate in music festivals, and sing with other professional groups.

To join PBC, take the first step and sign up for an audition, which includes a free voice lesson with a PBC conductor.

Your donation, no matter the amount, will make an impactful difference in the lives of the youth we serve.

HELP US CHANGE BOYS' LIVES THROUGH THE POWER OF MUSIC

We depend on donors like you to deliver our life-changing program. Since 1947, our music education and youth development program has positively impacted the lives of over 5,000 boys. They have learned to work in an ensemble toward a common goal, to develop courage, poise, discipline and tenacity, to increase their confidence, and to gain focus, concentration and memory skills.

These responsible, caring, creative young people become our future leaders and citizens endowed with a passion for the performing arts and community. Members of our choirs come from throughout the Greater Phoenix area and represent a diversity of backgrounds. Through your support, we can continue to provide financial aid to all qualifying choristers, so no boy is turned away due to an inability to pay.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our sponsors and guests, our 75th Anniversary Gala was a night for the ages. We have a million thank you's for everyone who made the event a success; allowing the Phoenix Boys Choir to provide financial aid to all qualifying choristers who want to sing.

Our Gala Master of Ceremonies, former Phoenix Suns star, Cedric Ceballos kept the evening fun and lively. The crowd was wowed by performances by the PBC Cadet Choir, Town Choir, Tour Choir, Young Men's Ensemble, and Masters Men's Ensemble. A special thank you to Dr. Brook Larson and the Orpheus Male Chorus for joining us on stage in song. We are grateful to the two composers, Joe Fitzmartin and Dale Sakamoto, whose pieces we premiered. Additional thanks to special Gala performers, The Sahnas Brothers (PBC alumni), Dr. Elizabeth Buck, Miro Koshio, and the always spectacular, Yellow Bird Productions.

Proceeds from the Gala enable us to continue providing lifechanging experiences for the youth we serve, particularly for those whose participation in our programs would not be possible without supplemental financial assistance.

Finally a huge thank you to Gala Chair, Brandi Reynolds, Honorary Chair, Dr. Dorothy Lincoln-Smith and the Gala

Committee for your tireless efforts on behalf of the PBC. You are all superstars to us!

PBC WELCOMES KIRK DOUGLAS AS TOWN DIRECTOR

DSC_2393.jpeg

We are thrilled to announce that Kirk Douglas has joined us as our new Town Choir Director for our 2022-2023 Season and our 75th Anniversary.

Mr. Douglas is a passionate conductor, performer, and educator. He has directed the award-winning choirs at Boulder Creek High School for thirteen years and currently serves as president of the Arizona Choral Educators (ACE) leadership board.

Mr. Douglas earned his education degree at Ottawa University and his performance degree at California State University, Northridge. Along with singing in numerous ensembles, he worked as a professional soloist/actor throughout North America and Europe. Recently he was selected to receive the OM Hartsell “Excellence in Teaching Music” award through the AMEA (Arizona Music Educators Association) and was recognized as the 2017 Deer Valley USD Teacher of the Year.

In 2012, Mr. Douglas had the opportunity to work in Italy, singing opera and as the assistant to the music director with the Lorenzo Malfatti Academia Vocale di Lucca. His proudest accomplishment has been conducting his honor choir and performing an aria on the stage at Carnegie Hall in 2017.

CHORISTERS AND EDUCATORS GET CREATIVE WITH JIM PAPOULIS

Thank you Jim Papoulis (2).png

Phoenix Boys Choir choristers recently participated in a 2-day songwriting workshop with world-renowned composer and inspirational teacher Jim Papoulis. Our singers collaborated with Mr. Papoulis in each phase of the process of creating a brand new song - a powerful experience that gave them agency in expressing their thoughts, ideas and dreams. In addition to gaining insight into the music composition process, it also helped them tap into their individual creative abilities. The newly-composed collaborative composition will premiere during our 2022-2023 Season.

Mr. Papoulis also led a session with Arizona general music and choral arts teachers, where participants received practical ideas to help their students compose and perform quickly. The professional development event concluded with a drum circle designed to offer a framework for building rhythm in students.

We invite you to join our email list to get the most current information about future professional development opportunities!
