A Message to Our Community
We are living in an unprecedented time. As our nation responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, the speed of change has moved faster than we are often able to comprehend. It is fair to say that today we are living in a changed world. The steps we are taking on a national, state and local level will hopefully ensure the safety and security of all members of our community.
However, despite all this uncertainty, one thing remains constant, and that is the deepest gratitude we have for the dedication and support of each and every member of the Phoenix Boys Choir family.
The Phoenix Boys Choir remains closed and onsite rehearsal, concerts and other appearances canceled through April 18, 2020. We anticipate that the closure will likely be extended, but are waiting to see what unfolds in the coming weeks to make any decisions.
We are working very hard at the Phoenix Boys Choir to continue to deliver our mission of educating boys in the art of singing and performing music in the boy choir tradition. And while that is going to look a great deal different, we are committed to exploring every opportunity. Our Artistic Director, Herbert Washington offered our first virtual choir rehearsal and music theory lessons for our Tour Choir boys via the online platform Zoom.
Our staff are working in the office and at home and are committed to helping this organization innovate in real time. We welcome and appreciate your insight and ideas. Most critically, in this time when we are all feeling isolated, we want to continue to maintain, uphold and support our community. When we say the Phoenix Boys Choir is a brotherhood, we mean it as strongly today as we have in the past. And while it will look different, it will be just as impactful.
We appreciate the many expressions of concern and support we have received from our community. Even though our live performances are paused for now, we at the Phoenix Boys Choir are working together to keep the music playing online.
In this time of uncertainty and darkness, it is important for us to remember how the arts are fundamental to our humanity. They inspire and ennoble us by fostering creativity, goodness, and beauty. The arts bring us joy, help us express our values, and build bridges between cultures. The arts are a key component of our Greater Phoenix community by strengthening us socially, educationally, and economically. These are benefits that persist even in these difficult times.
